Huge Response to Lib Dem Oxford Street Pedestrianisation Survey
The Marylebone Liberal Democrats have had a huge response to our recent survey regarding the Mayor of London’s plans to pedestrianise Oxford Street. Residents from across Marylebone shared their views, and a clear message has emerged - local people do not feel listened to.
Many residents told us they were unaware of the details of the plans or had not been given a meaningful chance to express the concerns that they have. The feedback shows real anxiety about the impact on local streets, particularly fears that closing Oxford Street to traffic will push congestion, noise, and pollution further into Marylebone’s residential areas. There is also serious concern about bus routes being diverted away from their current routes, leaving parts of our area with poorer public transport access and longer, less convenient journeys especially for older residents and those with mobility challenges.
Local Lib Dem campaigner Martin Kersh said:
“What really stands out from responses to our survey is how ignored Marylebone residents feel. People are worried about traffic chaos, about losing their bus services, and about decisions being made without proper meaningful local engagement. It is the Liberal Democrats who are genuinely listening, and we will continue to be a voice for people who are concerned about the impact of the Mayor of London’s plans.”
The Liberal Democrats will keep pushing for a fair, transparent consultation that takes local views seriously. Oxford Street needs improvement, but any changes must be planned with, not imposed on, the communities surrounding it.
