The EU Commission has rejected the UK government's request for more time to meet the requirements of European clean air laws in Greater London. High levels of air pollution in London, especially in Westminster and in the heart of the City, breach European air quality standards designed to protect health.

Mark Blackburn and Westminster Lib Dems join The Wave

Mark Blackburn, parliamentary campaigner for Westminster North, joined other Lib Dems last Saturday 5 December from around the country to call for action on climate change. Liberal Democrats held a rally before joining the rest of "The Wave" in its march from the US Embassy on Grosvenor Square to the Houses of Parliament.

The European Union does a lot of good. Its budget pays for supporting rural communities, protecting our environment, encouraging research and development, and building infrastructure in poor regions and in countries that until recently were communist dictatorships.

Westminster is London's most heavily subsidised council, official figures reveal

Conservative-run Westminster is, this year, the capital's most heavily subsidised council, with Westminster receiving 79p from central government for every £1 it needs to raise in taxes. If any of London's LibDem councils received the same subsidy they would not be charging anything in Council Tax!

Is Lisson Grove's Tesco Express breaking more rules?

Tesco stands accused of yet again breaking rules under which its controversial Express outlet on the corner of Lisson Grove and Hayes Place was approved by the council. This follows recent revelations that £100,000 promised by Tesco for the local area had not materialised, 18 months after planning approval was granted.
