The momentum builds: senior ladies and City workers "coming out" as Lib Dems!

9.21.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 5th May 2010

Simon, a Westminster resident and long-time Labour supporter who is now for the first time going to vote Lib Dem, emailed in this amusing and inspiring story.

He recounts: "I was sitting on a park bench at lunchtime the other day when I overheard one old lady whisper to another 'Do you know that for the first time in my life I think I am going to vote Lib Dem', as if she were coming out. The other lady was so surprised she choked on her sandwich and coughing said 'So am I! But I dare not tell our John.' They smiled at each other as they shared their new bond."

Simon commented: "How refreshing --- Its not just the two old ladies, but most of my peers in the City who are also whispering and 'coming out' as secret Lib Dem switches. I think we are in for a big surprise!"
